Literally Reading the Bible

I have so much about Bible translations and how we are to read the Bible.
One of the main topics I have heard is "You can literally read the Bible".
My answer is to that, If the Bible does not imply that the passage is a metaphor, or a traditional practice of the day it was written then I have no reason to not literally read and teach the Bible.
The Bible literally says "Thou shalt not Murder" that means you do not murder. very straight forward.
I do realize however that the book of Revelation for example contains passages that are difficult to discern weather they are literal or metaphorical. Does that mean that we throw the book of Revelation into one category and say it is just a metaphor through and through? NO!
There will be judgments, there will be much pain, there will be sorrow, and there will be a glorious appearing of Jesus Christ!
So let us all be diligent to ask the Holy Spirit on how we are to read the many passages of scripture that have been given to us. Not our strength but the strength of our Father.
