A New Life Style

I believe that being a "new creation" is much more than clothes. I believe that leaving behind "dirty" music for "clean" music in the same genre is a change. A new creation on attitude, heart, and actions are much more applicable to that scripture than a change in clothes.

To take it further, if we are a new creation, according to your analysis, then we must completely change: new job, new house, new car, new wardrobe... everything, and I do not believe that is in the spirit of that particular verse.

This is a comment I had on my blog (Q and A Clarification on Music) by a friend of mine. I do not wish to make him look bad only to clarify my position and the interpretation of 2 Corinthians 5:17.
I remember when I was saved in October of 2002. I will never forget how the scriptures were opened to me the Holy Spirit was speaking to me through them it was the most incredible experience. It wasn't emotional I didn't start shouting loudly and do anything crazy. The Word of God was like food to me I inhaled it and it became something meaningful to me it was A New Mind Set.
I started in a new life style that day that continues. God is progressively sanctifying me, I learn and grow every time I open the scripture just like that first day.
Something to point out from my friends comment. I did not change my wardrobe. That is because what I wore did not go against the teachings of the Word of God. I still wear T- shirts and jeans for casual, and a suit and tie for dress.
I did not have a car then, but providing I did have a car it most likely would have not changed until I needed a new one because my car does not go against the teaching of the Word of God. You can apply that to every part of your life. In fact you should. Does my life reflect that of Christ likeness? Pray and ask God to show you. As you do that you will slowly become a new creature. One day that creature will be perfectly sanctified free from sin for eternity.

  2. I guess we're flipping ideas off of each other, which is great.

Your convictions are great, follow them. But what I'm having trouble understanding, is how music itself goes against the Word of God.

Just like you don't change your clothes because they don't go against the Word of God. But how does clean music go against the Word of God? That's where I'm at a loss.
