What motivates you?
What makes you get up everyday and go do whatever it is you do?
If you say money, or bills then you are much like me. I really do get up and go to work to make that wonderful paycheck I get every other week. And like many Americans in this economy like my self, you may have been out of work. Or you still are... (I hope not if you are my heart goes out to you). And because of that your paycheck means more.
I put a lot effort into my job. My job takes creativity and there is little room for negativity. I actually really like my job and I appreciate that what I do must help the company or I will be let go (may it never be for any of us!).
I wonder sometimes what really motivates me. Is it because I love my job? Or is it because I like the paycheck.
Maybe not in truth I have left jobs I love because they don't pay well (or at all). I have also left jobs that pay great because I hated the job I was doing.
I hear a cliche all the time "When I win the lottery I will... whatever". I have heard people say they will buy a nice car or a great house. Some have said they will give a portion to a charity.
Motivation for life puzzles me... really it does.
Some people work for the pleasure of working, some work for the money so they can spend it on the weekend. Others work for their families so that there is a good meal everyday for their children and spouse. These are great reasons but they really don't make any sense.
I think motivation is identification. You are motivated to do something to be identified with something greater. If you are truly motivated by money (which I don't buy), you could say you are motivated to be identified as the guy with the money. To be a Doctor, or a lawyer even a sewage plant worker is an identification with something.
As wake tomorrow I take pride in the identification I have in my company and the perspective that is offered to the world around me.
That's motivating
