The Small Things

I took a moment to consider my day today...

Though somewhat average it was actually very exciting. The reason it was more exciting or noticeable is probably because I decided to pay attention today. I don't mean that I walk through life with a blindfold on. I just tend to not look around myself to see what is going on and digest all the events.
This morning I drank my usual coffee, did my Bible Study, I ate my breakfast (today it was waffles combined with some homework).

Sometimes in my life I tend to let the small things pass me by without even looking at them to see how important they really are to me. A really good friend of mine told me to pay attention to the small things. (I miss that friend we have not talked in about a year and half). However what they were getting at in their statement was simply to appreciate the small things of life.

How many mornings do I drink coffee?
Every morning...
How many mornings do I eat my breakfast?
Every morning...
How often do I consider that my car starts perfectly every time or that someone took out the garbage.
In truth I rarely give it a second thought, unless something does not happen like it usually does.
The small things... I would have saved a lot of grief in my life if I had appreciated the small things. In fact if I had appreciated the small things that I take for granted everyday. And actually attempted to perform small things for those around me. I may much more fulfilled with my day, my week, my year.

Of course the reason I miss the small things is because of my selfishness. I am very selfish. (I just wrote a whole blog about me)
I want to write more about the small things but less about my failures and my boring routine.
I want to do a survey of the small things in life that are missed. Or a survey of something small that no one sees that would be missed if it were gone.

Comment on what that may look like, I will post something based on a comment or something of my own next week. I will be more likely to post something based on your comment than on my own biased view.

  1. I don't know if it is a small thing but I wonder if you think about how your sense of humor effects others and what they think of you. I like it. But I'm weird.
