Trending Now

I see this ever changing box on a popular website where I read my daily news.
This box is called "Trending Now"
What is strange to me is that it changes so fast. What was trending and hour ago is no longer trending. In fact what is trending at the time I write this blog will not be the trend when I publish it. (Yes sometimes I write a blog a few days in advance of its publish date.)
Trends are so fleeting, they are so quickly changing. I cannot seem to keep up (I sound like an old person.) What was two days ago is no longer.
I am shocked when something stays popular more than a year.

The stars of last year are no more. You will hear of a star for a while but they are not the trend because it has changed.

I started writing five minutes ago and I checked the box again... it changed.
Trends do not even last five minutes!

I am so glad that I do not try to keep up on the trends or I would go crazy trying to be what is now.
I realize I am being a bit extreme with the trending now box. However I believe it really says something about our culture we live in.
We are really spoiled we need something new all the time to keep us happy. Our culture is like a spoiled child that expects a toy every five minutes.
Why is every single market flooded with so many products?
We must satisfy the consumers with new products every year. Its very bad if you have last years model.
Its also a huge way company's make money my creating new products (trends) to keep people buying their products over and over again.
Is the new product really all that different than the last product. Probably not; there may be a few new features but in actuality you don't need those new features probably.

I'm not saying you should never get anything new. Yet I wonder how many of us get something just to have something new. I know I am guilty of this vanity.

Consider this statement made by Jesus

Matthew 6:19-20
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;

What are we spending our time chasing after?
The fleeting trends of whatever it may be?
Or are we chasing after something lasting and permanent?

I really prefer something lasting and permanent, because the trending now box has already changed about a dozen times since you started reading this.

My challenge to you is to look for something lasting that you can pursue, something unchanging.
I am sure you will not choose a current trend that will end in about 30 seconds. Oops sorry its already gone.....
